Woodburned Skateboard

Always love trying new ways of mark making. I remember spending time with my grandfather as a kid using his woodburning kit to make designs on Artist Conks (Shelf mushrooms that grow on tree wood) and I haven't drawn with burning since (aside from the video I posted just recently). As I worked on this I found easier, faster and more detailed ways to work with the medium. Great fun on this piece. Enjoy!

Kessels Kramer New Tapestry Project

I was invited to participate in the new project by Kessels Kramer. The project is basically a recreation of the old Bayeux Tapestry, which depicted the major news events of 1066. The project is being called 'The New Tapestry', and it consists of illustrators from around the world, contributing black and white images depicting the major news events of today.

I was given 'Week 7' of 2009 to illustrate, (Feb. 9th - 14th). I went with the news article about the US Senate approving Obama's $838bn Economic Stimulus Plan right after a $1.5 trillion Bank Bail Out.

The H'Art Attack Show opened this past Friday night and it was great! Thank you for everyone who showed up and supported local art. Alright you nerds, here are printable tshirt iron on images to make your very own Harry P Homeboy Tee's. My lady and I have got ours set for tomorrow's midnight screening, haha. I'm proudly ashamed of my own nerdness. I used 2 8.5x11 sheets of iron on transfer paper to print these out as large as I have it. But you can print smaller if you want. IMPORTANT!!! Before you print on your iron on transfer paper (available at walmarts and staples) be sure to print it reversed (aka. a mirror image) because if you don't then you iron it on, the text will come out backwards. There, you've recieved your fair warning. ENJOY!

*Note: I don't have permission to use these characters, this is a zero profit, 100% fan art venture and if anyone uses these designs for profit I renounce responsibilty. Play fair everyone. This is just for fun.

Red Bull Three Style

I got the happy opportunity to work with Red Bull (via Aparatus Inc.) once again. This time for their Three Style DJ Competition. Filtering across Canada, selected DJ's battle for best set to carry onto the finals in March. Think American Idol for DJ's, except take everything that's shitty out of American Idol, replace it with eyeball rattling awesomeness, and you have this event.

I was given the responsibility of coming up with the type treatment and Poster/event image. After a few revisions, some of which were painful for me to endur, we got ourselves a pretty decent thing-a-ma-bob. It was great sitting in on meetings and having a voice about how this event would look and to give the influence for how it was marketed.

Most people I know had friends tell them about the wonder-crushing truth behind the man in red. I, however, found out completely by accident. I would write to Santa each year, and each year received a letter back. Obviously, I saved every letter because that dude is famous! What sparked my skeptism was a note my dad wrote me to excuse me from a phys ed. class one day. I recognized the stationary. So in CSI fashion, I compared the note to a letter Santa had written me, the paper was the same, the handwriting was the same, I brought the evidence to my dad and he confirmed my speculation. In that instant, my child-like wonder was lost. That was the day I not only lost Santa, but the Tooth Fairy, The Easter Bunny and the concept of magic all together. Crushed.

Shoes made for a Shoe Gala hosted by Toms Shoes. A great company who's core mission is to give free kicks to kids in need. For every pair of Toms Shoes purchased (customs or not) a free pair is given to a kid in need. Huge drops of thousands of shoes are dropped in South America and Africa. Pretty rad. The show was great and I'm stoked I got to be a part of it. I painted 14 pairs of shoes in two days to get stuff ready for the show. Any shoes not purchased are now on sale at Lileo in the Distillery District.
